EN 1090 + ISO 3834 + EN 15085

Triple Certification Process

1. Preparatory Phase & Project Initiation (1–2 months)

  • Define certification levels:
    • ISO 3834: Part 2 / 3 / 4
    • EN 1090: Execution Classes EXC 1–4
    • EN 15085: Welding Capability Levels CL 1–4
  • Select an accredited European Notified Body (NB)
  • Sign a combined certification contract
  • Establish a project team and provide standard training
  • Conduct gap analysis against all three standards
  • Develop a gap closure and implementation plan

2. System Establishment & Documentation (2–3 months)

  • Build a unified Welding Quality Management System (WQMS) based on ISO 3834
  • Develop integrated quality manual, procedures, and work instructions
  • Complete WPS / PQR in accordance with EN ISO 15614
  • Qualify welders per EN ISO 9606 and welding operators per EN ISO 14732
  • Certify NDT personnel at Level 2 (VT/UT/RT/MT) per EN ISO 9712
  • Upgrade workshop facilities: welding equipment, welding consumable storage, environmental control, traceability system
  • Verify material certificates (3.1 / 3.2)

3. System Trial Run & Internal Audit (2–3 months)

  • Operate the system for a minimum of 3 months with real production records
  • Conduct internal audits covering ISO 3834, EN 1090, and EN 15085
  • Perform management review
  • Finalize all welding qualifications and testing documents
  • Prepare sample products for on-site audit

4. Combined Document Review (1 month)

Submit full documentation to the certification body:
  • Company legal documents
  • Welding quality manual and procedures
  • Qualifications of welding coordinators, welders, and NDT staff
  • WPS / PQR dossiers
  • Equipment calibration records
  • Factory Production Control (FPC) plan
  • EN 1090 ITT (Initial Type Testing) plan
  • EN 15085 welding level and component classification
Address non-conformities and obtain document approval

5. Combined On-Site Audit (3–7 days)

Single on-site audit covering all three standards:
  • ISO 3834: Welding quality system, records, traceability, workshop management
  • EN 1090: FPC, EXC control, dimensional control, NDT, coating, CE marking, DoP preparation
  • EN 15085: CL level control, weld quality classes CPA/B/C/D, railway-specific inspection
  • Witness production and testing
  • Resolve minor and major non-conformities

6. Corrective Actions & Certification (1–2 months)

  • Close all non-conformities
  • Undergo technical review by the certification body
  • Obtain three certificates simultaneously:
    • ISO 3834 Certificate
    • EN 1090 Certificate (CE + FPC)
    • EN 15085 Certificate
  • Certificate validity: 3 years

7. Surveillance & Recertification

  • Annual surveillance audit (combined for all three standards)
  • Renewal audit after 3 years for recertification
